Watermelon Cake

September 032
All you need for this “cake” is a watermelon.  Yep. That’s it.  Oh, and a knife.
The original recipe is in the August Martha Stewart Living Magazine.  They may still be available for purchase.  But I wouldn’t know-- I get mine from the library b
Wash and dry the outside of your watermelon.  Cut off about 1/3 from each end and set them aside.

Save the 2 ends and level the top and bottom of the “cake.”
Cut it into 8 wedges and arrange them on your cake plate.
Using the end pieces that you cut off, make melon balls and pile them on top.  Garnish with an edible flower or a sprig of mint.

Voila! The fastest cake in the west… and without even turning on the oven! b

Happy Labor Day!

Nolan Ryan Aug 2010 July 317

Hope you are all enjoying these last moments of summer!

(and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.  1 Ti 4:10

Dorothy Lynch Dressing

If you live in a state where Dorothy Lynch dressing is “not available in stores.”
I.am.so.sorry.
bottle3
We are lucky enough to live next to the state it originated in.  Nebraska.  And thus, it’s in every single grocery store here.
But there’s one tiny problem.
It’s kind of expensive.  And it never goes on sale.  NEV-ER.
We’ve been using this make-it-yourself-alternative for many years.  It tastes so, so close to the real thing.
And I’m thinking you probably already have the ingredients right there at home.  If you’d like to try it :)

Dorothy Lynch Salad Dressing

Photo
    • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
    • 1/4-1/2 cup sugar (OK to use Splenda instead)
    • 1 can store brand condensed tomato soup
    • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
    • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon celery seeds (or poppy seeds if you don’t have these)
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Mix all ingredients in a blender until creamy.  Pour into a jar or container and refrigerate until ready to use.
PS -  It also makes a fabulous glaze for ham and pork chops!  f

Scrapalooza

Recently a member of my Etsy team -  the SHE Team -contacted me.
She had seen a photo on my blog.  And wanted to know if she could make a copy of it.
Now.
This was just an ordinary photo.  Snapped on the way to the car.  Of simple and sweet daisies.
And… I wouldn’t have thought twice about it!
BUT.  Misty from Scrapalooza had a vision of enlarging them to use as art on the wall of her craft room:

Cowboy Church

July 267I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.  Psalm 16:8

Every year during Frontier Days, we attend Cowboy Church

It’s outside.  In the same arena as the rodeos and night shows.

We, of course, sit in the stands.

You know.  In the SHADE.

All during the service, the rodeo contestants and staff are in the arena, warming up and getting ready.

In the hot SUN.

Many make time to worship and hear the sermon.  They radiate a spirit of worship and thankfulness:

Even the animals are respectful:  July 265

If you’re nearby during Frontier Days, join us… you won’t be sorry!  O
